.454 Cassull versus 375 Winchester
« on: January 11, 2005, 01:20:44 AM »
I'm looking to purchase the Encore and am considering a straight walled cartridge for hunting in the shotgun zone of Michigan.  I usually hunt in the rifle zone and am looking at the 7mm-08.

The .375 Winchester has been recommended in previous postings.  What do you think about the .454 Cassull.  What is the expected range for that caliber and what is the recoil like compared to 7mm-08 or a hot loaded S&W 29 6" .44 Mag?

I have shot a 454 in an Encore, and it was a very unpleasant experience.  It seemed to have more torque and muzzle flip than my 375 JDJ or 30-06 Encore narrels.  The 375 Win., is a much more pleasant caliber to shoot.  More of a push than the sharp bite of the 454.
