Hello from Georgia,
I have a .444 Marlin Lever gun and have come to like it very much. I have shot some factory loars as well as some handloads and it performs well with both. I would trust it on any deer species in North America as long as the shots were kept within 150 yards or so. Much past that and this round falls quickly. It is a solid, predictable and potent round ! Mine has taken 4 deer, all under 100 yards and none went more than 40 yards.

I've had one for several years; it's my primary Bear & Elk Rifle. Mine is superbly accurate, putting 3 shots into ¾" @ 100yds from the bench consistently. It knocks the slobber out of our big Roosevelt Elk of the Pacific Northwest! The newer models have 1 in 20" twist Ballard rifling; 6 lands & grooves. Older (pre 99 I think) have slower 1 in 38" twist; MicroGroove® Rifling, 12 lands & grooves.

The newer/faster twist is supposedly to better stabilize heavier bullets. Theory goes that the older, slower twist rifles won't  stabilize bullets over 265gr. Mine does fine with 335gr & it's a MicroGroove® barrel.

Go to the MarlinOwners.com & check out the Big Bore Forum. Ranch Dog, Starbow, & VTDW are the resident experts on the 444. Additionally go here & start your journey.

I have 3 and won't part with any of them.  I second everything Dawei says and further advise you to view the Beartooth Bullets site for their incredible info on the 444 using cast bullets.  HTH.  Mikey.
