Mountain Molds and 45/70
« on: January 11, 2005, 04:13:22 PM »
I ordered a mold from dan at MM. A 350gr and a 500gr cavity in one block. He doesn't do two designs in one block. I wanted the 500gr and the 350 was in case the 500 wouldnt shoot. My question is will the 1895 stabilize a 500gr bullet? Velocities will be from 950-1200fps mostly and 12-1600fps occasionally.

Thanks

Recieved word about the stabilization of the 500.  The 1895 does shoot the 500 just fine.  The thumper mold will be an iron XL double cavity throwing a plain based version of his standard 500gr bullet.  Ill be testing it as soon as I get my paws on it.... can't wait.

I decided to get this mold because of the big meplat (75%), I considered an RCBS but it has a tiny meplat (around 60%) and a gas check. I don't plan to shoot the bullet fast enough to need a GC and they add extra expense.

I have several of his molds.  You will be happy.  I have the 405gr as well...
