I was thinking it was 5760 grains in a pound of powder? Is this correct?

7,000 grains of powder in a pound. Knowing that helps you keep track of how much powder to buy. There's 437.5 grains in an ounce.

The measurement system for reloaders is avoirdupois under which there are 7000 grains per pound (16 oz X 437.5). In the Troy system - which is used for measuring precious metals like gold - there are 5760 grains (12 oz X 480). That`s why under the trick question we were presented in elementary school, an ounce of gold weighs more than an ounce of feathers, but a pound of feathers weighs more than a pound of gold. :eek:

Longwinters,

Thought about helping you out with your question, but had a hard time deciding which type of power you might be talking about. Grains of flake, extruded, ball, etc.

Then after a good deal of thought and consideration, I decided it wasn't a good idea to try and answer the question as I ran out of fingers and toes before I got a forth of the way through the first dipper full and goodness knows how many dippers full there were in that pound of 4831. :lol: :lol:

I would think that you have enough snow up in old Idaho that you would have plenty of time to take up a project like that. :lol: Hope you had a great hunting season.
