My Hunter loves the Speer 270 GDSP and the Federal Castcore 300's for factory stuff.   The Hunter seems to like the heavier loadings.  I have taken deer with both loads.  I was really impressed with the GDSP..never seen a deer fall faster...with the Castcore I had to track about 10 yards-LOL   Both are great choices for deer!

With handloads and 20.8 grains of W296 and a Rem 2.5 primer with 300Gr XTP's puts all shots in one big hole at 25 yards.  As accurate as my FA.

Of course, you really need to try different brands to see what your SBH really likes.  Mine, unfortunately, just loves Win 250 grain Partition Gold.  That gets into your pocket very quickly.

mstake,
I shoot mostly handloads in mine.  The only factory load that I have used was 240 g. Federal American Eagle (the cheap stuff in the red box).  It shot great.
Best,

Mine likes Hornady 240 XTP and Winchester 240 Hollow Soft Points best. The American Eagle in the red box was terrible.  I shot a 150 pound hog in December with the Hollow Soft Points.  Great results.  I want to try the Speer 270 GDSP.  I have heard alot of good things about this load.

I`ve been load for and shooting the .44 mag. since 1968 and over the years I`ve come to settle on 2 loads for the .44 mag. I load the Serria 240 gn. JHC with max. loads of Win. 296 for deer hunting and a good cast bullet with 6 gn. of Bullseye for plinking. Both of these loads have shot well in every .44 mag. that they`ve been shot in. I like the Serria bullet for hunting because it has the best combination of accuracy and terminal preformance of any bullet I`ve tried, and I`ve tried about every bullet on the market.

For deer with the .44 Magnum my personal preference and what I've killed most of mine with is a 240 JHP. I began using the Hornady 240 JHP before they came out with the XTP. Since then I've used the 240 XTP and also the Nosler 240 JHP which reminds me of the older Hornady JHP I loved so much.

Hornady loads the 240 XTP as factory ammo to pretty much duplicate my handloads with it. Nosler doesn't offer their 240 JHP as factory ammo but I think Winchester does load the 250 HGPT and it too should do an outstanding job. Those two are my personal recommendations for deer.

Will you be reloading jacketed, cast or both?

Honestly, any relatively inexpensive hollow point or soft point bullet that shoot well out of your gun will work for the distances and species that you listed.  While the premium stuff is great, you don't NEED it.

but i few helpful hints would be great! thanks

If you plan on shooting either commercially loaded cast bullets or handloaded cast bullets (I highly recommend), I would take 2 steps to ensure accuracy and reduce leading.

The first would be to have the cylinder throats on that Ruger opened up and consistant.  Most pistolsmiths will charge between $50-$75.

The second would be to order a lapping kit from LBT, around $25-$35,  to smooth the bore and take out any tight spots.  If you want to know why, I can get into more detail.
