Non-sabot projectiles???
« on: January 13, 2005, 05:36:17 PM »
Hello all,
I have just purchased a H&R Sidekick 50 cal muzzleloader.  I live in Colorado where you cannot use saboted projectiles.  I can use powerbelts, but because of the price and the fact that I like to shoot a lot, I am looking for alternate non-saboted projectiles.

I see that hornady makes both the Great Plains bullet for 8 bucks per 20, and they also make a PA conical for about 8 bucks per 50.

I also see that I can buy the no excuse bullets for about 20 bucks per 50.

I don't cast, so anyone else have some suggestions about cast bullets that I could use, perferably less expense so that I can shoot a lot.  I know that I could just step up to something better for elk/mulie season.  Please let me know what you think.

DoubleA: check out Midsouth they have a closeout on powerbelts
I also don't have the time to cast conicals ,go and do a search Black Jack Hill on e bay, here is a guy that cast the REAL  conicals . I myself do purchase the REAL in 320 and 380 grain, his price which includes shipping is $ 11.00 bucks for 50 rounds ,so it about 20 cents a round.

Sorry Guys.
Seems I sent a PM to lonewolf5347 when I wanted to PM DoubleA..Not enough coffee this morning yet I guess.
Anyway, I wanted to let DoubleA know that I cast and live not too far from him.
After rereading lonewolf5347's post, those prices are excellent. I couldn't deliver for that.
BTW, I highly recommend the Lee REAL bullets. I use them in both .45 and .50 and think they're the greatest for all around shooting.

Sorry for the mix-up lonewolf5347

lonewolf,
WOW, thanks or the info.  REAL deal there.  Pun intended!  Any load data for me with these?  Do you use wads?  Cleaning hints?

ADDED
I forgot to mention my Sidekick will be a 26' 1-28 twist.

Thanks a bunch,

DoubleA: seem my m/l favor goex 3f over a wad and anywere from 80 to 90 grains of powder, spit patch between shots then followed by a clean patch.I have been using a 50/50 mix of beeswax and lard and a tablespoon of olive oil for a lube on the conicals. :D
