can anyone safely achieve 3000fps/150gr, 2900fps/165gr or 2800fps/180gr. in the .30/06 with a .24" barrel?

law,  56.0 gr IMR4350 with a 180 Nosler Partition averages 2800 in a number of rifles I own or load for with 22 inch barrels.  Should be easy in a 24 in bbl.

I have reached 3000+ with 150 grain sierra prohunters in my old husky 06 with a 24" tube. My cousin gets it with his old springfield also with 150 grain ballistic tips. 4064 seems to work with this weight bullet. H4831 and IMR4350 work well with 165 and 180s. Anthony

My 30-06 has a 22" barrel and I use a lot of the IMR4350 for different bullet weights for a nice accurate load at around the velocites mentioned. Never clocked 3000fps with a 150grn bullet until I loaded some Sierras and a less than max load of VN550. No pressure signs and a little over 3000 with 58.0grns. Get good accuracy with the IMR4064 also.

With my 22" barrels I've never come within 100 fps of the book listed velocity with max charge of powder listed. Often I'm over 150 fps shy of it when I reach the max charge listed. I've tried a variety of powders supposedly best for this round and have never gotten there regardless of bullet weight.

I loaded some 150 grain power-points this year  with a Winchester case, a Federal 210M primer and 60.5 grains of H4350 and got a average velocity of 3030FPS  out of  Weatherby Vangaurd with a 24 inch barrel. Have not been able to reach 2900 with a 165 grain but get around 2850 with a max. charge of Varget out of the same rifle and around 2740 fps with 180 grain bullets.I also have a Ruger with a 22 inch barrel and get 2820 with 165 grain Hornady SP' s., and get a little over 2900 with 150 grainers  and right at 2700 fps with 180 grain bullets.

I was always 100-150 off with a 22" barrel. I now have a 30/06 with a 25" barrel, I get 3050 with 150's, 2960 with 165's, and 2825 with 180's. All loads are right at or below book max, and loads I have used in other rifles.

I have had my best luck with IMR-4350. RL 22 gives some great accuracy, though a bit less velocity.  The 165's at 2960 are launched with W760, the first time I have tried that powder.
