Pachmayr Forearm Problem
« on: January 15, 2005, 07:16:05 AM »
I have a Pachmayr forearm I installed new on a super 14" 45-70 over 3 years ago and have never removed the barrel from the frame. Today I tried to remove the forearm and it won't budge. Yes I removed the screw. Would pouring oil of some kind down the screw hole help or is there a different option available. Thanks, Rick

Are you saying that the forearm won't budge or the hanger bar? Use a flat screwdriver to pry either one of them off but use duct tape over the surface you pry against. If you work it from end to end it should come off since they can be a tight fit.

Flash, I'm saying the forearm won't budge. I've thought about prying it apart but afraid of scratching the barrel or messing up the forearm. It fits tight all the way around. I'm not sure if something like kroil oil would mess up the rubber in the forearm. I have 3 other Pachmayr forearms and they fit tightly over the hanger bar but nothing like this one.

nitemann, mine was like that when brand new. I had to take a wooden dowel and a rubber(in case you slip) mallet and tap down on the forearm to get it off. I then filed down the sides of the hanger bar to loosen the fit some-no problems since.  Pat
