I have a single six magnum and am wondering what they like to shoot. I understand that they are all different, I'm just looking for a starting point.

Well, me or the gun one really likes those old Federal 50 grain hollowpoints. I also get pretty good results with Winchester Super-X 40 grains. Mine doesn't like some CCI but I don't remember which ones. I think it did OK with the 30 grain really high velocity -- Maximag V+ or something but not the regular Maximag.

But it's very individual. I sometimes shoot the Winchester Supremes in the Black box. I am not sure they are exceptionally accurate, but I like their terminal performance.

At the very least you have a good excuse to shoot up a few boxes. By the way, don't be discouraged with a Single-Six if the accuracy isn't there right away. I believe you have to really get used to shooting a single-action. What I do is shoot a lot with the .22LR cylinder, then shoot a lot with the .22 mag cylinder. Did I mention that it is a good idea to shoot a lot?

Thanks for the advice Mushroom. Mine only has the mag cylinder so I guess I will have to shoot it twice as much!

Why is it you only have the mag cylinder? Do they make some like that now?

I wish they made a Bearcat in .22 magnum.

BTW, I like your signature -- good verse -- well, I guess they are all good, but some are more to the point.

Well the reason I only have the mag cylinder is it was my Uncles revolver and when he passed away my Aunt gave it to me. I don't have the heart to ask her if she has the 22 cylinder. I will never get rid of it so the fact that it is worth less money doesn't bother me.

As far as the verse, yes there are lots of good ones, had a hard time picking just one!! :-)

Oh, that's cool. I'm always debating with myself about which cylinder to use. You'll probably never miss the LR one. I was out shooting mine Saturday. It was cold.

I was using a variety of ammo, the gray box Winchester Super-X, the black box Supremes, and the CCI V+.

I had my NEF .223 slung over my shoulder and was shooting offhand.

The CCI V+ seemed make the gun jump noticeably more than the gray box Winchesters. Accuracy was way more a function of my concentration on sight picture and trigger control than the ammo I was using, proving once again that my guns are better than I am.

In mine the Federal 50 grain hp stuff is really accurate. It groups around an inch at 25 yards. With other magnums or with the long rifle cylinder I usually get 2 inch groups. But each gun is different.
