i've said before that i think the BPS is the best all purpose shotgun on the market today.  They're invincible, truly ambidexterous, and smooth to shoot.  That being said the 870 is just as tough although a bit rougher.  I don't have much use for the 1200 or 1300s but I know others do.  The nova shoots just like a futuristic 870.  It's still not as smooth as the bps and it looks like a lazer gun from the sci fi channel.  That being said, some like the looks and they are tough.

benelli makes the most popular autos, deservedly so.  I got my first chance to shoot a high end berretta the other day, and I must say it was at least as smooth as the much worshiped SBE.  That being said, go with a pump when you're young.  They're more reliable and just as fast (when shooting accurately).

Express & Wingmaster might have the same parts, but the finish and smoothness of the gun is nowhere near the same.  The Express rusts like a bare piece of steel.  Last Express I had did not even have a finish on the wood other than the stain.  First time I hunted with it my gloves turned brown.  The top of the vent rib on the Express is smooth and does not suit my eye, I prefer the grooves running the length of it.

People take a lot of new guns down and slick them up to smooth the functiioning out, so fit and finish does seem to make a difference.

I gave my 2 cents in another post and I'll restate here. I have used Mossberg for close to 40 years. i've tried the Nova and Remingtons as well. Yet I still shot the ole chair leg mossy. I just shot the gun better than anything else I've ever tried. My point fit in a shotgun is much more important than bout anything. Shoot the one that fit's you the best. All three guns are very good. Can't go wrong regardless of what you pick.

By all means go with what fits you.  I like the Nova concept and I would like to own one but that thing just does not fit me worth a darn.  The 870 on the other hand feels like it's part of me.  Try them both out then decide, you can't go wrong either way. 8)

Deerslayer,

If you're a person of smaller stature(like me,less than 5'10") with shorter arms, then the nova should fit just fine. If you're a big ole boy then you'd best check out something else or get a slip on pad. With 3.5 shells and a short stock, a larger person will be getting his nose fixed after his thumb slams into it. The Rem. has a longer stock and chokes are readily available just about anywhere. The finish on the Nova will rust but not as fast as my Rem or Moss. I've shot pump guns all my life and have yet to find another that's as slick as the Nova. They look kinda different, but Ive gotten to where I pull it from the Guncase before any of my other pumps.

Good luck on your Quest

Just wanted to pop in and support the good ole xpress. I see alot of talk about these guns rusting quick. Well, in support of this GREAT shotgun, that is hooey. I have had mine in inclement weather quite a few times (dropped it in  the snow quite a few times to -d*** briars-) and there is no rust to be found. But then again I am the type to clean after having it out in that kind of weather. My single shot pardner rusted quicker. All the shotguns metioned are great guns but it all comes down to what you are comfy with. As far as price goes, I really don't think that you could beat the Xpress or the Mossy.

Just my 2 cents. The only problem I have had with my Xpress would be the cycling is a little rought sometimes. Ex: Had some doves in the air this year and shot one but when I went to pump it kinda locked up on me. I really had  to jump on the thing to chamber another round.

Not trying to argue; however you get a lot more for your money with a Mossberg® than a Remington® or Benelli®.

For example...............

Remington® has a 1 year warranty; Mossberg® has 10. Remington® gives 1 choke tube (MOD); with Mossberg® you get 3 (IC, MOD, & FULL). The Mossberg® has an ambidexterous safety (as does a Browning®). Mossberg® includes a sling and swivels. Who was the first with the 12GA 3½" gun? Mossberg®! Who was the first to OVER BORE barrels? Mossberg®! (Browning® does for their guns as well). Mossberg® guns are not cheap; they are inexpensive, there is a difference. The Army & Marines are using Mossberg shotguns in the war in Iraq; no complaints from them.

Don't sell Mossberg® short; with the money saved you can buy a lot of other equipment.

WINGMASTER COMES IN 3.5, I HAVE BOTH WINGMASTER AND EXPRESS AS WELL AS THE MOSSBERG.  HAVE TO SAY THE WINGMASTER IS  SMOTHER PLUS  BETTER LOOKING THAN THE EXPRESS.  AS FAR AS MOSS VS. WINGMASTER THERE IS NO COMPARISON.  THE 570 IS SOLID.  YES THE MOSS GET MORE FOR THE MONEY BUT THE 870 WINGMASTER IS JUST A BETTER PIECE OF EQUIPMENT. I WOULD GIVE THE NOD :D  TO THE WINGMATER

Actually bullseye, the expresses and wingmasters do not have the same parts.  They look the same, but the wingmaster has machined parts compared to the stamped parts of the express.  The machined parts hold up a lot better.

As far a the guns go, the 870.  For pheasant hunting, use the wingmaster, its pretty.  For deer and waterfowl, buy the black synthetic.  The 870's are more reliable.  Mossbergs have lots of probelms- trust me I sell em.
Accuracy doesn't come from the arrow, it comes from the Indian!
