Bad shells

Don't know if you guy's deal with win. ammunition questions....But has anyone else had any problems with the casings busting on win. ammuniton.

I experienced the problem twice this huting season   The first time was with 30-30 shells. The casings would bust around the neck when you shot. I confronted win. with the problem and they sent me the things to send in the shells. So I did. They sent me a cupon for 20 $ worth of ammunition. I guess they think that is all my life is worth

Then my buddy let me use his .22-250. He had a brand new box of shells and some of the bullets looked like they had gun powder on them so I took a rag and started to rub the black off bullet by bullet. this is when I discovered that 5 of the casing were already cracked around the neck  I took them back to my buddy and he didn't want to fool with sending them in. :?

Needless to say I have decided not to shoot win. ammunition any more

Just thought I would tell everyone about this problem so you could make a decision on weather or not to shoot there shells.

Split necks are usually caused by brittle brass. They are not dangerous, because they are in front of the shoulder, and the case body usually seals the chamber. The .30-30 is particularly bad in this regard because the brass is so thin. The only real problem is they are useless for reloading. On the other hand, splits in the case body, or near the head are a real cause for concern.

Tell me what you mean by the head. I'm not so sure what I'm calling the neck is really the neck of the shell.

If anyone know where i could find a pic of a shell that lables the parts by there right name it would help me tell you the problem.

Ok....The picture say that the part of the shell I'm talkin about would be the shoulder. You stated that if the heads were cracking then that was trouble. So what about the shoulders cracking? Culd this cause any trouble or just brittle brass?

I have shot ammo with big wrinkles, dents and cracks in the neck and shoulder, and dents on the body, with no problems. I would not recommend you do it, but it does not scare me.

Can it be harmfall to me or the gun if the casing crack? It really doesn't matter, winchester already gave me a cirificate for twice the amount I paid for the shell and after I use the cirtificate I will never buy winchester shells again. After you have the same problems twice with the same brand it is time to quit buying those shells.
