« on: February 04, 2003, 02:02:32 AM »
This has been the best season in the last 5 years here in central North Carolina.
I wonder if anyone could help with an address.
I shot a mallard in December with a band.It was from South Carolina,Im trying to report it but without much luck.
I started in SC and went to NC to Washing to Vir. to W Vir. and no one can tell me where or how to report a band.
Ive got about $60. in phone calls tying.
If anyone could help Id appriecate it.
Thanks Zimm

Congratulations on the good season.  Just a question for you, are you sure its a Federal band?  Meaning from the DNR or US fish and game?  As a guide in minnesota, we have shot quite a few birds that people raise and let go with bands you can purchase at any game bird feed store.  It should have a phone number on it if it is from the DNR.  I should be able to get you a 1-800 number to call shortly.  good luck!

Sounds like you might have a "local" band. Like Mn-Joel said quite a few private clubs and individuals place their personal bands on ducks. It's not uncommon, we killed one a few years ago with a colored band on it. When we followed up with the inscribed phone number we learned it was from a biology student who was doing a mortality study as part of his undergraduate work. Are there any number on the band besides a SC phone number?

Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time....ES
