Super 14 30 Carbine barrel from Midway
« on: January 19, 2005, 12:41:34 AM »
I saw these advertised the other day - must be a special run. It is also advertised with a 1-12" twist. I know that the later barrels had a 1-10" twist. My question is - if anyone has purchased one of these? and, how does it shoot? I would think that it was made specifically to shoot 110 gr. ammo, but I would like to use heavier bullets. I have owned previously a 10" bull barrel and still have a ton of 30 Carbine components. I find this barrel attractive but am afraid that it will not meet my needs with the 1-12" twist. what do you fellows think ?

How heavy of bullets are you planning on shooting in your 30 carbine????

A 1/12 twist should stablize 150 grain bullets even at low carbine velocities.

Thanks Johnly - would probably want to shoot 150's in it. I used to have a 10" bull and 12" Fox Ridge barrel - both had 1-10" twist, and both were amazingly accurate. With a max load of 296 and Sierra 150 spitzers, the 12" barrel clocked at 1550 FPS. Shot a bunch of 40's in IHMSA with it, and I am very sorry that I sold it. I am still a bit concerned with the 1-12" twist, but may take a chance with it.
