How Many Do We have So Far?
« on: January 19, 2005, 03:55:49 PM »
Ok guys.  I'd kind of like to get it locked down as far as how many I've got coming.

I am also going to do something that I was hoping not to do.  I'm going to limit it to a max of 20 shooters.  I'm doing this because I am afraid if I have too many, it will take away from the shooting experience of the people that I can accomadate.  I want everyone to have fun, get plenty of shooting in, and have as safe a shoot as possible.  If I have more than twenty people, I feel that I won't be able to provide the best possible shoot.

One other thing I'd like to address.....

Bringing wives

This is my take on it.  Unless you're wife is a serious shooter, I wouldn't bring her.  It's going to be long days, high heat, possibly windy, and nothing for her to do.  She's not going to have much fun because there isn't much out here for her to do.  There's not much shoping or other such things that wives like to do while their husbands are doing their things.  And if she's not happy, you're not going to be happy.

Not to mention there's going to be some consumption of cool refreshing beverages in the evening, and much telling of lies by all.  This is also usually not a fun scenario for most wives.  Some of the conversations may be somewhat off color and we don't want to offend anyones delicate sensabilities

Also, there's the safety issue to consider.  If I've got twenty shooters to worry about, and there are eight or ten wives watching, then I've got eight or ten extra bodies to keep up with.

These are just some thoughts that are going around in my head about the subject of wives :-D

As far as the list of participants......Please list your name below and I'll keep a running list of everyone that wants to shoot.

I've already got Graybeard and Dennis on that list.

I plan on arriving late on the 4th, shooting on the 5th and possibly the morning of the 6th before moving on toward the Grand Canyon. This will be a combo PD hunt and two week 20 year anniversary trip for the family. My wife says she gets to plan the rest of the trip.

Save a few dogs for me.  :D

It's a little early for me to make a 100% committal.........maybe 75% right now. But I know me and Digger are planning to attend as it stands right now and we'll try to bring Marv along too. I'm pretty sure Deadeye47 is coming too, only not with us. I'm pretty sure Digger is a 100%'er right now too. How 'bout it Digger?
Wes - do you mean you only want 20 shooters per day or a total of only 20 people total from this forum allowed to show up. I was kinda hoping to see more than that come for the total event........shooting P-dogs and shooting the breeze. Maybe we could draw for the 20 slots availabe per day or something like that. Heck I'd be happy to just walk away with one of those Mueller scopes with only a few shots having been taken at the P-Dogs.

So far, we've got:

Solid:
Graybeard
Dennis
Ditchdigger
Ed in Al

Pretty sure:
Lik2Hunt
Marv
Deadeye47

Lik2Hunt, I'm just trying to make sure that everone gets as much shooting as possible and has a fun time.  If everyone is as adaptable as you, then it won't be a problem.  I just don't want anyone going away from this thing feeling like they drove a thousand miles for nothing

Maybe if I had an idea of how many hard core prairie doggers we've got coming versus those who are more in it for the bs'ing and socializing it'd make me a little more at ease.

Ed, please don't take this post as meaning that I don't want you to bring your family.  That's not what I intended.  I just wanted everyone to know what the conditions would be like for their family members if they came.

To help you understand which category I'm in I've bought four new rifles just for this trip at a cost for bare rifles of $700, $600, $269 and $240. Still have to equip them with bases/rings/scopes on top of that. Been wanting to shoot some PDs fer most of my adult life and never managed to pull it off.

Having said that for sure whoever is partnered with me will get just as much shooting time as me at least. And being an old fart in not the best of health I might not be able to stay out all day or even every day. Dunno. I can see some slack from me for someone to do some. For instance Ed isn't planning to be there a lot. He might could not be counted and slide in with me and Dennis on the days he is able to be there and shoot some in place of me or something like that.

But for sure for me shooting some dogs is priority number one. Course I'll hang in with you BS'ers at night as long as I can.

Wlscott;

Tommy Mace will be there definetly. He is the owner of Leadhead Bullets and shoots a Handi in 223. He does not post here but he normally does not have the time due to his business. He works 6 days a week. and sells his bullets to COR-BON. Been buying his bullets for two years now and found none better. He is coming from Kansas.
As GB said, Bill and myself will be there.

I am planning on being there. I am a serious hunter but never to serious about anything. I will shoot when I can but I sure want to see those who have not done much doggin get their share or more of the shooting time. For me its a chance to meet some other addics, compare handi notes and visit some old friends and family in NE on the way. Less than perfect health is the only thing that will stop me. If there is anything that We can help with once we get there, count us in.
shot placement is everything.

So far I've got:

Bill
Dennis
Ditchdigger
Ed in Al
Mitchell
Marv
Tommy Mace
James B
Hellacatcher (+1?)

and a pretty definate maybe from Lik2hunt and Deadeye47.

That's eleven, maybe twelve shooters so far, then myself and my three or so helpers.

I am coming.

1 shooter and 1 non-shooter.

I am like lik2hunt, very flexable, event more important than the shooting.  If need be the shooting can be divided up easily.

OK guys, let me just do a little re-clarification here on the limit to 20 shooters that I was talking about.

I was kind of getting spooked that I was going to end up with thirty or forty serious prairie dog shooters that were wanting to put out a round a minute for four days

The reason I put a limit of twenty on it, was because I was looking at this thing as a dedicated prairie dog hunt, with socializing coming second.  It's looking like the socializing is actually first on the list of everyones priorities.  Twenty was the amount of people that I felt that I could provide ample shooting for, and get everyone into and out of the field safely and in a somewhat organized manner.

Now, if we end up having more than twenty, but the majority are here for the socializing and to get to know everyone, then I can shift gears somewhat.

Like I've said in other posts.....I just want everyone to have fun, and enjoy their trip.  I'm pretty easy, and I'll do it however the majority want to do it, as long as it's not going to be impossible for me to get it done

Here's the updated list:
Bill
Dennis
Ditchdigger
Ed in Al
Mitchel
Marv
Tommy Mace
James B
Hellacatcher
Jimmy
Fuzzy
Grandpa Mike
Varminter

Maybe:
Lik2hunt
Deadeye47
CKnight98

Am I missing anyone so far?  That makes 16 with the maybes.

Ok here's the deal......I'm changing my committment level to 95%....have to leave the 5% open for the unforseen since it is this far away. There's always the work issue, which I don't really think will be a problem and of course the finacial question is always looming in the darkness somewhere, but I feel 95% confident that I will be attending with my friend Ditchdigger. Hope that's good enough. Gonna put in tomorrow for Friday the 3rd and Monday the 6th off . Then I'll go from there.
Also you can list me as one of the non-hardcore p-doggers, although I'd like to get at least a good morning's or afternoon's shoot out of the trip. I'm sure we'll be traveling on Friday and Monday so that leaves Saturday and Sunday to hunt and chew the bullhide with everyone.

I am sorry to say I will not be attending. I have to send my daughter to a 2 week flute seminar in the end of June. That isnt so bad but the the 800 dollars for her to go will bind my finances.  But hey if she does well at the seminar a real good chance ot attend the music college with a good scholarship.  it will be 800 well invested.

I've been watching this thing grow and grow. I would really like to come shoot, but it looks like the only way I could is if it rains here and not in Guymon ( I farm for a living ). But at any rate I might be able to take off early one day and come over and meet some of you fine folks. Where I live is about a two hour drive to Guymon.
So I'll just have to play it by ear and see what happens.
Hope to be there :D  :D  :D

Put me on the 75% list. I am in Albuquerque NM and according to mapquest only about 6 hrs away from Guymon OK.

I have some business stuff pending in June that might get in the way, but at the very least I expect I can break away for some socializing for part of the time.

Cheers
