Don't let it get you down. Many forget that they were once young and learning. The difference is that when I was young I did not have the internet to do research. I had to depend on gun and hunting magazines and gun shop bull shooters.
I shot a 30-06 for 12 years and killed a pile of deer with it. Damage and killing effectivness is a function of bullet selection in most calibers, not just the 30-06. With your .270 you will have to find those sweet loads that are both deadly and accurate. One advantage of the .270 is that it is VERY popular and there is no shortage of fine bullets, factory loads and opinions on bullet weights and loading.
As soon as you can invest in a reloading set up and start crafting your own loads. It is cheaper and there is a certain joy in shooting your own loads.
I applaud you for researching and asking questions BEFORE taking the plunge. If you ask questions about your ammo choices you may save some $$$$ in that quest as well.
The Remington is a fine rifle and the .270 has what it takes for most, if not all major North American game animals.
