30 Bellm cartridge...
« on: January 20, 2005, 02:16:12 PM »
Anyone have first hand experience with the 30 Bellm round?  I've read some stuff about the cartridge,- history, development, and it's acceptance by the Illinois Department of Conservation as a legal handgun round for deer.  I would be interested in hearing about the loads you use, and how you like/dislike the cartridge.  Thanks!

The only custom barrel I ever bought new, was a 13" Encore in the 30 "Whats his name".  I wasn't happy with the accuracy of the gun, I expected more.  I sold mine.  You may want to contact CNC Cartridge Co.  They are big fans of this caliber.  They may still be selling factory loads.

I went with the 300 Whisper and have not regretted it.
Loaded ammo is available from corbon. Making your own out of 223s is easy as well.  Load it hot for hunting or load it light for plinking.
Its more accurate than I can hold it. I have actually got 3 shot groups less than .40 with the 150 CorBons. I have a T/C custom shop barrel so I didn't even need to spend the big SSK money to enjoy the caliber.
Its legal to hunt with in Ill.

In all fairness I have no experience with the other 30 you asked about.

Mamerch;
That is an old story from many years ago before I got here. From what I understand, let's just say that there is some bad feelings and differing opinions between the 2 and leave it at that.
