Traditions E-Bolt 209 issues
« on: January 21, 2005, 04:34:39 AM »
The other day my dad decided to get into black powder shooting, as my younger brother had recently purchased a 209 Optima Pro.  He got a Traditions e-Bolt 209, 45 cal. for $89.00, and brought it over.

I went to this site and read how the E-Bolts have a tendency to go off when closing the action, so I looked at it closely, and made the following observations:

1.  The firing pin sticks out a little way from the actual bolt face.

2.  The bolt itself, will go forward if closing the action and the trigger is depressed at any point during the closing of the action.  With the firing pin sticking out of the bolt face, this could lead to a discharge.

3.  The safety is in the way of the bolt handle, so closing the action can very well take the safety off.

These are observations made of his gun and his gun only, I didn't look at your gun, I don't know crap about your gun.  If you have different observations, so be it.

In my opinion, this is not a safe design and I wouldn't buy it.  But I understand that I do make mistakes and do forget things occassionally.  You may be superhuman.
um, er, yeah.  okay.

mine did exactly that.. thankfully at the range under control. I called traditions about it and was basically called a liar by the person on the other end. if you try a search on traditions or e-bolt 209, you will find past posts that deal with their guns, which in my opinion are extremely poor quality. on a footnote, the blowback from mine ate the finish off the bottom of my scope!!!
you wanna take my guns? go ahead, it's your arm!

That's interesting I had a friend with a Traditions inline that wouldn't shoot anything. I shot it numerous times with various bullet and powder combinations. I have been shooting black powder rifles for about 15 years now and the Traditions Rep. treated me as if I was a complete dumb***! He insisted that he could sight it in with four shots if he had it and was VERY ARROGANT. Well I have been shooting scoped rifles a lot longer than I have been black powder, I had tried everything to get this thing to shoot.
Well he sold it before we sent it back and bought I Knight T-bolt. He has been happy every since and killed 12 deer in a row before he missed one. It took me about 4 shots to sight in this quality rifle in at 100 yards.
Well I will never buy a Traditions product or reccomend one because of this experience and most of all the way the customer service rep treated me. He really ticked me off!!!
Be Careful!,
Stan

My first two MLs were Traditions...I'll never buy another.
The first was a basic 129.00 Deerhunter.  Great gun....once I had a gunsmith work the trigger under 10 lbs.
The second was a Lightning LD.  The trigger was oppressively heavy, so I adjusted it down (yes, voided the warranty).  After that it would go off if the bolt was close accidentally before remembering to reset the safety.  I'm sure if it was dropped it would have gone off too.  Couldn't go under abotu 7 lbs on the trigger safely.  TOTALLY UNSAFE DESIGN.  After 2 years of heavy shooting, the "firing pin" wore off the plunger and led to misfires.  Gave up and bought an Omega.
The Lightning WAS accurate...after 200+ shots to smooth out the visible machining marks in the bore, and floating the barrel myself.
