Last year I built 2 Remington no#5 rolling block rifles. I order 2 barrels from Badger, said I would get them in 20 weeks, waited 32 weeks, then they said they didn't have any idea when I would get them, I councelled and ordered 2 from Green Mt., got them same week I ordered. They are wonderful and very accurate. I'm not bashing Badger, they probably make the best barrels money can buy, that's why they are so busy. I would love to try Badger some time when I can wait that long .

I have two single shots with Green Mountain barrels, and one with a Badger. The GM barrels will shoot right with the Badger. I would highly reccommend a GM barrel for any project! Way cheaper, faster delivery, and accuracy! What more could one ask for?

thanks for the replys. On looking into barrels these two makers seem to pop up often.I was all settled on badger untill advised by some people I believe are in the know that said Bbl.maker is making large quantities for for our gov't,there for the wait and ,I'm told what does get out is suffering some in quality.G.mtn.say in their website Black pdr.only.would you be using black or smokless?

Bob, the barrels that I ordered from GM are Sharps #1 heavy 34" longand are 4140 chromemoly steel. With this barrel you can shoot jacketed or lead.
Mine are chambered for 45/70, I have shot jacketed and lead but now I cast my own from mostly wheel weights. And yes , I use smokeless and black but mostly black, It's a lot more interesting than smokeless and is really easier to clean up after.

Dear Bob,
Montana Rifle Barrels make octagon, tapered etc for anything you might want to do. I have used them in the past and have found the barrels VERRY good. Also, the people are great to work with and FAST too.

Bob,
My GM barrels were both blackpowder cartridge barrels, but I shoot smokeless in them with great accuracy. At about $125 each, (or less if you have a dealer discount) they're hard to beat. The best thing is they're almost always a stock item, and delivery is fast.

Bob,

I highly recommend GM. Several Single shot gunsmiths in the US I have talked with highly recomend them and above Badger, tho I didnot question them why. I spoke with Badger and placed an order for 1 .45cal barrel and then contacted them again for another in .40 cal. Nice people, knowlegable and quite helpful too. However 2 years on, no barrels and no replies to phone calls, messages, emails and a fax. So after approx 6 months wait, I contacted GM. They answered all my queries and more. Then had the barrel sitting with my gunsmith, via their agent here in Australia 5 weeks later. Can`t beat that ;) Ask them about your smokeless queries, they will assist you. Tho I will shoot BP, my barrel is suitable for smokeless... Reminds me, I am going to order a heavy .45 Octagon barrel for a 15-16lb rifle project. Will contact them shortly... Good luck :) cheers from Down under....
