6 mm BR?
« on: January 21, 2005, 02:20:01 PM »
Would someone please give me a primer lesson on the 6mm BR.  I am considering a new target/varmit rifle and would like to know it's capabilities.  Thanks in advance.

The 6 BR is a short fat case that fires a .243 cal. bullet. It is inhearently a very accurate case, but if you really want to take full advantage of what it can do you will have to build a custom gun. It is about 200 fps. slower than a .243, with the same bullet. Unless your wanting to put alot of money in a gun I would recomand you get something else. Since you said target / varmint, I would recomand a .22 cal., eather .22 PPC or .22 BR if your going to have a custom gun built. I would also recomand haveing a tight necked chamber. Eather of these rounds requires that you form brass and with the tight necked chamber you would have to turn the necks. If your not up for all of this I would recomand that you but a good factory rifle in one of the .22 cal`s. ie. .22 Hornet, .222, .223, .22-250 ect. or a .204 Ruger, or posibibly a .17 Rem. In a good rifle any of these rounds will shoot groups under 1/2 in. at 100 yrds., with the right loads and a good shot behind the gun.
