I am deciding on a scope on my 480 SRH and want an opinion,
black (matte) or silver on the Ruger. Which would look better on
that ugly gray gun?

I'd say go for the silver; I have a silver Leupold on my Ruger 77/17 All-Weather with the exact same Target Gray finish.  It seems to complement the finish very well.  Just my .02 8)

matte black.  stay away from glossy finish scopes.  matte black looks very sharp.  i put both on mine, the black looks way better.

I agree with myronman3, go with the matte black.  I've seen them both ways, and the black looks better to me. JMHO!

I don't much care what color a scope is, as long as it's not neon pink.  The surface of the scope should be a matte texture, however, as this makes it less likely to slip in the rings.

Black.  The silver won't match the gunmetal grey, but black will go with the black on the grips and it won't shine.
Best,

You can make either scope match the gun if you desire to.  I put a shiny silver Nikon on a Metalifed 375 win TC barrel.  I didn't care for the shiny silver scope so I took it off and taped it up and bead blasted it.  I got a nice, satin gray finish.  Just make sure the air pressure is not on high when you do aluminum and make sure you tape neatly around the power setting ring and the focus ring.  (I also ran a 1/8" strip of tape around the gold logo on the bell)  I stuff kleenx over the lens to protect it, then tape over the lens.  It turned out very pleasing.  I have also taken silver scopes and spray painted them satin black with very pleasing results.  44 Man

:D I agree with Myronman.  Tried the silver on mine, then changed to matte black.  Looks much better.  Especially with the Badger laminated grips.
