Looked online at some lite youth handi rifles today.  7mm/08 comes in youth, no sites, wood & blued. I think it weighed 5.5 pounds.
 Question #1 can I buy an adult stock for when the youths have grown? and will it fit right on?
     Question #2 If I buy it in a caliber but think I might... :)  want another some day and send it in to have the next barrel put on... do I get my old barrel back and can I then switch them back and forth myself? I mean by just removing the forend and switching EASILY. like my old
H&R 58 topper? (guy at the store said NO) I thought yes, but had no facts to base my theory on.
  #3  I went and handled a new handi in .22 mag today and found the trigger to be very nice... Is there that much difference in others? I mean if I order a brand new gun do they all now have good triggers, are the trigger jobs you all speak so highly of just to get a 2 .lb pull?
 #4  which calibers start to give the pressure problems on the ejector? a friend had one in .22-250 and said it broke a couple times and he had to push out the cases with a cleaning rod.
    If you can answer any of the above questions it would help me out. Thanks Brent

1) yes.
2) yes.
3) triggers come in a variety of qualities- luck of the draw.
4) rimmed cases eject/extract much easier than non-rimmed cases.

On #2, you don't send in you current barrel at the time you order the new barrel, you only send in the frame with butt stock and forend. They fit the new barrel to the frame and return the complete rifle to you. You original barrel will still fit fine.

On #3, Lately a lot of shooters have been reporting approx 3lb triggers on new handis and sportsters, apparently the factory is making some changes to lighten trigggers from the get go, which is good news.

On #4, So far only the new .204 ruger and .22-250 have an extractor, but all new handis will have the extractors once the factory has used up their supply of ejectors. There are lots of older models of Handis on the market, so it may be a while before other calibers start showing up with extractors and everyone will be picking their loose brass out of the chamber instead of having the brass stick occasionally or have it fly 10 feet over their shoulder! :eek:

Now I can sell the old .308 that I am sure the kids didn't want to have to lug around anyway and put the handi on lay away! Excellent.  Brent

That's the second time I've heard someone get told by a dealer that you had to send the gun back to the factory just to change the barrel.  That is just plain false.  They are either ignorant or lying to sell you something else.

Most triggers nowadays are coming in very nice.  Don't hear complaints too often anymore.

As for ejecting, if you clean the ejectoy assy, polish the chamber, you are not likely to have a problem.

Brent: One thing that wasn't mentioned was that when/if you send in an action and forearm for an additional barrel, they will work the trigger over for free if it is needed.  :D <>< Duce:

Well I went to Gander MTN to see what they had for a 7mm/08 Handi and was very shocked not to find any handi rifles, so we looked all over and we finally saw a handi in a spot it didn't belong. When the clerk got over from helping someone else I was thrilled to see it was a 7mm/08 brown Laminate... I checked the trigger and handed it back and told him to put it on layaway so gave him some money down and I am on my way to being a real Handiholic. It will look nice next to the old topper 58 30-30, I will just have to find all the components and get some dies picked up here in the next 60 days.... :-)   My wife did mention that we didn't discuss it though :oops:   I had mentioned it but we never "discussed" it. Isn't "discussed" the part where she says NO? I will have to work on that.

Fellas, I gotta say that I think I picked a goodun.  No discussion needed.  As long as I pay the bills, take her out to dinner every friday night and keep putting some in the 401K, I could come home with a bull elephant and she wouldn't complain too much.  :-D
