I need a good set of sight for my Ruger Bisley Hunter preferably with a post front sight. Are they making aftermarket sights for this gun? Thanks

Any good gun smith can put any kind of sights on it you want.

Both Bowen and Clements make front sights "in the white" that fit Redhawks and BH hunters. They can be shaped and made to fit with just a file. I've got two I've worked on; one for the heavy bullets and one for the standard weights for the caliber(.41Magnum).

Ruger makes a really nice express sight that has a gold bead up front and a shallow white v-notch in the rear. I love it on my RedHawk. I believe your hunter has a ribbed barrel like the RedHawk so it should fit. This is the same setup that many FA Premiere grades have on them if you want to see what they look like. Order direct from Ruger.

I called Ruger  revolver service in NH and was told that they do 6not make a gold bead front sight which will fit the SSH Hunter----#$%#@ it anyway!!!! I'd sure like to have one---or maybe a Firesight---anybody know of anything in production close to the above?  pg

I think that Redhawk front sight will fit Hunter, check parts list. Plenty of aftermarket ones around.

yeah, they make them for the redhawk and super redhawk only!!!

they do not work on the sbh.  you might get it to fit,  but good luck sighting it in.   ruger will tell you that right out of the gate.   to keep advising folks otherwise is wrong and  irresponsible.

myronman3, FYI

This is from Ruger website http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firearms/P-Intro.html

BOOKLET D3
RUGER NEW MODEL BLACKHAWK, SUPER BLACKHAWK, HUNTER & BISLEY SINGLE ACTION REVOLVERS
Front Sight, Red Insert H03600 Hunter $7.50
Front Sight Plunger KH07900 Hunter $1.75
Front Sight Plunger Spring KH08000 Hunter $.50

BOOKLET D8
RUGER REDHAWK DOUBLE-ACTION REVOLVERS
Front Sight, Red Insert H03600 All Redhawk Models $7.50
Front Sight Plunger KH07900 All Stainless Models $1.75
Front Sight Plunger Spring KH08000 All Redhawk Models $ .50

BOOKLET D13
RUGER SUPER REDHAWK DOUBLE-ACTION REVOLVER
Front Sight Plunger KH07900 All Super Redhawk Models $1.75
Front Sight Plunger Spring KH08000 All Super Redhawk Models $.50

None of front sights listed for Super Redhawk are listed in SBH Hunter booklet. However, plunger and spring are the same and I wouldn’t be surprised if Super Redhawk front sights go on Redhawk and SBH Hunter. Better yet, if somebody has all listed revolvers I would appreciate the test to see if Super Redhawk front sights fit Redhawk and SBH Hunter because I already have Redhawk and thinking of getting Hunter Bisley.

As you correctly pointed, rear sight adjustment could be the problem with front sight from Super Redhawk if they are installed on Redhawk and SBH Hunter. Measurement of their heights should provide the answer.

Any correction, if something isn’t correct, is appreciated.

My apology for late reply, Onty.

exactly.  i am sure it would fit, but you wont be able to get the sights on target.   this information is directly from the folks at ruger.

Is Super Redhawk front sight taller than Redhawk/SB Hunter? If so, that could be useful for loads with very heavy bullets for 44 and 45 Hunters and Redhawks, see http://www.hodgdon.com/data/pistol/44remmag.php , http://www.hodgdon.com/data/pistol/45coltlil.php . Some folks complained because front sights weren’t tall enough so bullet impact was too high. Contrary to that, I had seen Bisley 357 and 45 with filed front sights when used with lighter bullets for cowboy loads. Too bad that blue SA Rugers don’t have front sights replaceable, would like to have target, square one on Bisley 41. Local smith cuts the slot so front sights from stainless SA Rugers could be inserted. However, I would like to have the luxury of fully replaceable ones.

This is a wonderful site/forum, thanks to you myronman3, other moderators and all participants! I always learn something, even when I am completely wrong (and I was).

Regards, Onty. :D
