I had been saving money for quite some time to buy a 336CB in .38-55 and a few weeks ago I went off to get one.
I find out that they have been dropped for 2005, and nobody that I have found can get me one, even WalMart. The few that I have seen for sale online cost more than I want to pay.
So I have settled on the 1895 CB in 45-70. I went to my dealer last week to have him get me one, and guess what? I am told that the 1895 CB for 2005 now has a 22" barrel. Well, I want a longer barrel. So I tell him that he must be looking at the wrong gun, the regular model 1895. Because, I said, Marlin's website (now updated for 2005) shows a 26" barrel, and so does their 2005 catalog. But....both the website and the catog have a disclaimer about changing specifications at any time without notice. Hmmm.... So the guy calls their distributor. Whoever he talks to swears that the 1895 CB for 2005 now has a 22" barrel, NOT the 26.
So, I march off to Wal-Mart. Yes, says the guy, we can get that gun. I ask about the barrel length. He doesn't have a clue. I ask can he call, check with their distributor, or anything? Nope. All he can do is take my down payment for a gun and see what shows up. Hmmmm.......
Okay, we've had the WalMart vs. local gunshop debate here before. So I'll just point out right here and now that I TRIED the local gunshop. When I look at the ones (1895 CB) on GunBroker they end up being about $100.00 more than buying from WalMart would be. So, I'd like to just order one from Wal Mart and be done with it. But I don't want to end up with a 22" barrel gun!
Does anyone here know for sure what the status of the 2005 CB guns is? Have they changed them or do they still come with the 26" barrel?
Thanks. Dave
