Need help with Star sizer
« on: January 23, 2005, 05:09:37 AM »
I bought a Star sizer used with out any instructions. I have figured out how to change dies and am very happy with it. I am not understanding how to add lube. When I take the top off I see a "washer" inside and it looks like the lube goes under it. I do not see how to remove it. What am I doing wrong? How do I add lube? Thanks. Feeling kind of dumb, Shotgunner.

I saw that the top end of the shaft was threaded, the little handle was hard to unscrew. Once I got it out the rest was easy. This Star sizer is the best thing since semi-wadcutters. Thanks anyway, only feeling slightly smarter, Shot.......

As a new Star owner, you should check out the forum at http://forum.starreloaders.com/  There is a section on Star Lubrisizers as well as one on Star Reloaders.   If you like the Star Lubrisizer, you would love a Star Reloading Press.....as long as you can get one at a reasonable price.  There is no press made with better quality.....Of course they aren't made anymore because they were just to expensive to produce at a competitive price.

Check with Magma for Star Sizer instructions. They can help. Star Loaders can be had but with parts and support being what it is, buy a Dillon.

Actually, Star Machine Works of Pioneer, CA still makes all of the parts, and complete machines as well.  At a over $1000, I doubt if they sell many complete machines, but I have seen Star Reloaders go on ebay for as low as $200, and a number of them at $300.  At those prices, and with parts available, (not that you really need them) that's pretty competitive.
For Parts, check out http://starmachineworks.com/index.html

Still, Dillons are good machines, and the right choice for most.

I just got an email from Magma and they say they are making the Star lube/sizer plus they sell all the parts and sizer dies and such...the lube/sizer is selling for $195 new with no dies..according to what they told me, this equipment is made from the original tooling equipment and everything inter changes with the old stuff...seemed legit to me....funny though I see Stars on Ebay going for the new price...am I missing something?...anyway will check back and see what you guys come up with.....WW1

a while back I realised that I had too many bullet molds, I know you can't have too many but I had doubles and even triples of some. I contacted Magma and found out what a new sizer would cost. I listed some molds figuring I could raise enough money to pay for the sizer. They brought over $300 and I spent it on a Savage 110 in 250 Savage. I ended up selling a few more and bought a Star sizer on e-bay. There have been several listed since I got mine. The dies are pricey and I already have a bunch of RCBS and Lyman dies. I will keep the Lyman for rifle bullets and buy a few more Star dies for the bullets I use the most of. The Star sizer is great, I am supprized that it is not more popular. I guess that casters are looking to save money. I am keeping mine. Shotgunner
