30-30 Handi and cast bullets
« on: January 23, 2005, 06:10:25 AM »
Hey Guys:

I don't cast my own bullets...used to a long time ago...but not anymore...so I'll be buying mine to use for my30-30 Handi...

Who makes the  best cast bullet for the venerable ole 30-30...it would be shot out of a unscoped  NEF Handi rifle for...I was thinking of maybe Beartooth's...

1) casual plinking

2) target shooting

3) hunting whitetail deer...at normal ranges

This would be for both myself and my 2 sons...ages 9 & 13...and any loading information  you would  recommend would also be appreciated...

Thank You

Mac

I will be casting my own so I cannot help you with who is best but I have found that 2400 is a good powder for cast bullets and my Lyman book 42# says 150 grain cast bullet 18 grains for a vel of 2100 a 170 grain cast 16 grains for 1715 vel and a 125 grain cast bullet 16 grains at 1765 vel for the 30/30 so 2400 should give you good but economical on the powder loads and 2400 is not position sensitive. Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.
