compact scope opinions
« on: January 23, 2005, 08:07:58 PM »
I'm shopping for a "good value" compact scope for my in-line.  I have already looked at, and still considering, the Bushnell Banner line as well as the Simmons Pro Diamond but I am still shopping.

Anyone have any experience with the Millet Buck Silver compact scopes?  They have 3 models, 2x20, 4x32, and 1.5-4x32.  Also how about the Bass pro/Redhead shotgun scopes?  Anybody know who makes the Redhead?

Any opinions would be appreciated.

If I had to choose from the scopes you listed, I would go with the Bushnell Banner. But I personally use the Leupold 2X7X33mm.  :D

Jerry, If your looking for a good inexpensive scope check out the Bushnell Trophy 1.75x4x32. Shotgun/ Muzzleloader scope.

A pretty bright and clear scope. Lots of eye relief. A very wide field of view, and the Circle-X reticle is nice especially if you hunt in a brushy area.

I have two. One on my 1187 slug gun. The other on my Encore. The one scope is 6 yrs old the other is 4. Both scope have performed flawlessly to date.

In my opinion its a hard scope to beat for under $100.

Thanks for the input guys.  I agree that the Bushnell scopes, Banner or Trophy are the best quality in my price range.  The only reason haven't purchased one yet is my gun is an NEF Sidekick which has a very tall hammer and a low stock.
Any scope would require med/high rings to clear the hammer.  The Banner scopes I have looked at have the larger than average eyepiece which may require extra high rings.  I am assuming the Trophy scopes have the same large eyepiece.
Maybe I'll have the local gun shop do a quick mounting of a Bushnell to see if my concerns are valid or not.
