35 Rem. with cast bullet question

I have some cast bullets with gas checks on I would like to try in my 35 Rem. Just for plinking and target. The bullet was formerly used in a 38 Spl.

Do I have the right diameter bullet here?


Anyone have a starting load I could try?

Yes   yes and alot of fun too. We use 18 gr of sr4759 and it shoots to point of aim at 25yds (wich is where one of our swinging pistol targets is) We have used reloader 7 too but I don't have the load handy.. LMK if ya don't have sr4759 and I will look up a suitable load for ya later..   Marty

OK ,  I will look for the powder, I might have it.   Now I will have to dig around for the bullets I know they are somewhere...........

not knowing what bullet you are using giving powder reccommendations is a bit dicey.
  the 158 gr.bullet can be used with 21.0 /2400 also28.5/Re7 and 15.5/blue dot  these are max and should be worked up to.

I must have been skeered that day ... according to my records I used 25 grains of reloader 7... My youngest does all the 35 Rem. shooting and he likes the 4759 load better... according to the records the Rx 7 load did shoot about as well though..... Marty

Who knows since you neglected to tell us the weight and diameter.  Some .38 Spl bullets are sized to .357" which can cause leading in some .35 Remington loads.  How can we give a starting load when we don't know if the bullet weights 148, 158, 180 or 200 grains?  All these weights have been used in the .36 Spl.  

Lyman and older Speer manuals have several lead and light bullet bullet loads for the .35 Rem - give me some specifics and I'll give loads to try.

OK, here are the particulars.  MAC HOY bullets, KT-SWC , NO GAS CHECKS, .357dia. 158 grain

These are out of a box of bullets a friend gave me.


Have 2400, Rel. 7, Blue Dot

Without a gas check I would go w/ a lighter charge  than Jhalcott lists,  but any of em seems logical. Been my experience that older 35 Rem rifles can be "brushed out" to remove lead but no contender I ever owned was de-leaded as easily so watch for leading.... Marty
