Crossbow for hogs
« on: January 24, 2005, 04:40:02 AM »
Maybe I should chase down some old posts but what I am thinking about doing is hunting hogs at Granger WMA with a crossbow as they are legal as is baiting and hunting at night. Recently I have seen the Barnet Quad series package on sale for around 300 dollars and I have been thinking about getting one.  I guess my main question is what are the best shafts to make bolts out of and any ideas on the deadliest broadheads? Is this Xbow a good one? I have two excellent compound bows but have been having problems with bursitis and they are getting less fun to shoot.

I would stay clear of Barnett if possible and spend an extra $150 and get a Ten Point Titan TL-4 or Excalibur.
IMHO Barnetts are what you get is what you pay for!

I would have to strongly agree with Boltejector.  Excalibur for recurve and Tenpoint for compound.  I love the excalibur's simplicity and accuracy. I have a friend who has a Tenpoint and he loves it.  I personally like the excalibur because you can change a string in the bush in under a minute and still be right on acuracy wise.  Excalibur just came out with 2 new models you can check out them at www.excaliburcrossbow.com  Their forum is also an excellent scource of info for crossbow shooting and hunting.

I have owned a Barnett for 7 year's and have taken a whitetail ever year with it, my  son has taken 5 or 6 deer with it also.BUT when he went to buy his own xbow I loan him the extra money to get a Horton. IMHO also, you get what you pay for.*************ogo

ogo don't take this wrong as everyone to their own....Horton is a good xbow and I have owned a number of them, but compound wise I would have nutten but a TenPoint top of the line...However I am now nothing but EXCALIBUR....easy to keep up, no wheels, cables, or shop for a string change.

Best buy for the money and one of the fastest out there..Easy to change the string and no resighting in...draw back only one and that is the width of the limbs...get use to the extra width real fast...my .50 cents worth  :-D
