Where is the index page?
« on: January 24, 2005, 03:18:04 PM »
I am on a work computer, but everytime I click on the Index link it gives me a blank page.

I've also noticed that sometimes when I log on or add a comment, at work it will go to a "page not found" page.  A couple back clicks, hit the add post button again and it works.  Not sure if GB's host is messing up or if it's work systems.

I've been experiencing a lot of problems too.  I could not log on most of the day, kept getting a page not found error.

Maybe we're back so I can answer. Just as I started to type a response last time Matt called to tell me he was having to shut it down for more work.

Can't say what happened today. He isn't sure. We know the effects, not the reason. It just hiccupped and quit working today. I was at the cardiologist getting set up for my trip to the hospital and Matt was working. So even when I got home and found it down he wasn't able to go home and work on it until he finished his service calls.

I hope it's back up and I hope it stays. Since we don't know what caused it to do that he can't be sure if what he did is THE fix or just a temporary fix. We'll try to stay on top of it but Matt has a real job and can't always stop to work on the site when things go wrong.

I'm not always available to notice when it goes down either. Just bare with it if it goes, we'll get it back as soon as possible.

Yeah it's especially aggravating on a day like today when we're both out of pocket. Just part of running a site. Stuff happens at times. Some times ya know why and some times ya ain't got a clue. It maybe as simple as we're really bumping up against the ability of the server we're on to deal with the traffic load. Or it might be some of the changes Matt has planned will keep it working OK with this server awhile longer. It better as the next upgrade is over three times the price and the site doesn't take in that much money a year so that upgrade ain't gonna happen.

The last stats I looked at showed over 5.8 million page views and over 66,000 visitors in one week. Ya gotta know that's working the server hard.

GB
I think you're on the right track about the server.  I'm on cable connection and when I visit yous I notice a considerable slowdown.  I gues it's a good news/bad news thing.  Good news = lots of traffic, bad news = the server can't handle it.

Good luck.  I've had several sites over the years and they are a pian to keep up with.  Seems like everytime you improve one thing, two others screw up.  hang in there, we'll keep on commin to visit.
