I have some Black Mag 3 I wanted to try in my Pietta 1858 Rem. I left a msg on their website asking if their powder was suitable for cap & ball revolvers but haven't received a response. Any insights or experience would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If it is a substitute black powder that replaces black powder volume for volume, you'll be fine.

The web site says it is good for black powder cartridge guns.
Also, says it will work with a flintlock.
Seems like it would be fine for cap and ball.
I am going to get a pound and give it a try.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to give it a try as well. The stuff isn't cheap but it has some nice advantages if it is as clean and has as much energy as they claim. I'll post my results when I get a chance to go shooting. Good shootin'. CM :cb2:

Sounds like the cleanest bp sub out there. That web site says that it may be non corrosive.
Cleaning a cap and ball revolver after shooting black powder is a real mess, and is the reason I don't shoot my pistol too often.
