AirGun Silhouette questions
« on: January 25, 2005, 06:19:22 AM »
Ok here are a few questions I have as I am looking to go to Winnie with an Air Rifle and shoot the 1/10th scale critters!

Distances? I understand it to be Chickens = 20 yards? Rams at 45 yards?

Caliber of pellet allowed? Is .22 ok for AR silhouette?

Can a springer AR be shot in all 3 classes? I'm looking at going to Dallas for the Feb 12th match and I'm looking to get classified in all 3 divisions, only have a springer...

Thanks in advance.

You can use the Spinger in open and sporter but not the target rifle match. The distances are chicken-20 yds, pig-30yrd, turkey-36yrds, and ram-45yrds. Most use .177 but .22 can be used as long as it does not cause target damage. I am sure the guy's in Ft Worth will loan you a gun to get classified, but there match really does not allow time to shoot all three guns. You should contact them and see what you can work out to get your classification before you head to Winnsboro.

Good luck, Paul

George,

If by 'Dallas' you mean Haltom City, we can certainly lend you a target rifle to get a classification. (I'm assuming that by 'springer' you mean a spring sporter?)
In addition, if you need to shoot all 3 guns and don't have any other avenue, we can -- since I'm the match director! -- add a 3rd relay to the match...      :)

My "Springer" is a AA TX-200 in .22 cal with published velocity range of 560-767 fps. I'm using 14.3 gr pellets so I imagine I'm in the 675-700fps range from what I have read ....

Nomad,

I am in fact referring to shooting at your fine shooting establishment (is that thick enough??LOL), AJJ extended me an invitation and the oppurtunity to get classified in Air Gun before the southern nationals  just sweetened the offer. I have had a prelimenary meeting with my CFO (read-WIFE) and she had inatially ok'd the excursion.

Thanks for the info,

Chicken George

PS> Do you have your 2005 match books yet? Our local director has not rec'd his yet? In fact I'll trade you a slightly used 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and throw in a 2004 for only (1) 2005! How can you beat a deal like that?

Geo,

I 'might' buy that deal -- but if I've got your books and you have no proof of prior classification in anything, I guess that I'd just have to 'remember' your highest previous scores in each category. Lessee, you've shot at least three Master class scores in the last year with everything from Cowboy through HP and BPCR/Scope haven't you... :-D
