Has anyone any ideas why a .45 ACP reamer cannot be "run in" deeper to make a .45 Win. Mag chamber. vs getting another reamer??? thanks    Marty

Marty,

Gun chambering reamers are "form cutters" and take huge stresses during the reaming operation.  As such, are they ground to exacting dimensions to cut a chamber of proper dimensions to support the case neck, body, and head of a cartridge.

If a "short" reamer such as .45 ACP is run in deeper to cut a .45 Win Mag chamber, the result will be a bad chamber that is neither good for .45 ACP or .45 Win Mag.  You'll likely have reamer rings at the base where the cutting flutes lose support.  Too, the chamber dimensions would not be right.  It may cut eccentric or oversize.

Yes, I know, some 'smiths use short reamers to cut longer chambers in an emergency.  The right way of course, is to buy or rent the PROPER reamer to do the job.

HTH

John Traveler1: Thanks for the reply. Of course I would not be able to use anything that is easily available!!! Kind of what I thought tho, Probably not one of those "easily rented" reamers either. Oh well ... if it was easy anybody could do it!! Thanks again...  Marty    BTW... If ya needed a 17" .451 blank reasonable ... where would ya look??? Brownells and forget it??
