Another New member--Update
« on: January 25, 2005, 08:48:48 AM »
When I initially registered a week and a half ago, I said when I figured out how to post pictures--I would do so--of the two bronze cannons I had recently built.

Well after playing for awhile with Photobucket's web site I think I have stumbled onto a way that works.  I think if you click on this link it will show you several pictures I managed to get uploaded to their site.
If not, any help would be appreciated.  Also some pointers on how to upload pictures directly to GBO would be appreciated, as going through P-bucket was a bit of a chore!!

Anyway here is the link:

          http://photobucket.com/albums/v111/Lyle313/

The link hasn't "highlighted"  so I guess a click will not work.  Again, any help on how all this works will be very much appreciated.

Smoothbore,

Those are SWEET!   :toast:  What are the dimensions on them.

You almost have picture posting down. After you copy the URL from PhotoBucket and paste it into your message, simply highlight it and click the URL button at the top of the message blank. Done deal and your picture will show up in the message. You can also preview the message before it's sent to make sure everything is working OK.

CAV,  Thanks for the reply and info.  I just tried to post a reply to answer your question, but when I went to preview it, it said I needed to log in--which I had done when I brought up the site.  Oh well, my message disappeared. I have to head home now, so will answer your question about the cannons tomorrow morning.

Later,

Photo bucket is one of the most helpful sites there is and is pretty straight foward to post from.

With your Photo bucket page open right below the picture  you will see three little windows titled:  Url, Tag and Img.

Click in on the window beside Img.  It should turn blue.  With your cursor arrow on the blue right click your  mouse and select copy from the pop up menu.
Come to your reply window here on Graybeard and with your cursor inside the reply window right click and select paste and this should appear..
Code: [Select]
will then look like this

Finish typing your message  and hit submit.   When your message is posted your picture will show up.

By the way go back up to up your first message and click on edit.  You will be able to go in and see what I did to fix it.

CAV and Double D, thanks for the info.  Now I need your help again.  Yesterday when I replied to CAV's reply it wouldn't post saying I needed to log in.  I was (almost) sure I had already done so.  When I again logged in and replied it took.

This morning while trying to reply to CAV with info on the cannons, again it said I needed to log in, although I had already done so.  The second time this morning I logged in--it showed me as logged in--I typed a reply, scrolled up to the top where it indicated I was logged in.  Again when I tried to preview the post prior to submission the message of needing to log in came up and my reply was gone, and when I scrolled back to the top I was no longer shown as logged in.  Am I crazy or what???

If this reply takes, which still will not explain what is going on, I will try and reply again with the specs for CAV.

Smoothbore,

I have no explanation for you on the log on problem.  Haven't seen the problem myself.

The next time you get that message, I want you to do the following:

1. With the error message up  on the screen I want you reach up on the right side of you keyboard  and press the print screen key.

2. Leave the message up on your screen and go to START and open up WORD a new word document.  When you have a new blank document open hold down the CTRL key and press V.

3. That should print your screen from Greybreads.   Press the enter key twice.

4. Down on the task bar at the bottom of the screen click on Graybeards and reopen the window to Graybeards.

5. With the window open, I want to you click on the back button in the upper left corner which should take you back to you reply.

6. Press Print Screen

7. Shift back to the word document.

8. When back in word press CTRL V again.

9 Save the word document as GBOError.

10. Send me a PM saying you have the error document saved

11. I wll send you my email address.

12 You send me an email message with the GBOerror.doc as an attachment and try and figure out what's going on.

Double D---Test Message.

I am logged on and shown as so--lets see what happens this time.

It has allowed me to preview this time, which means it should submit, as the previous times when I tried to go to preview was when my message disappeared and the need log on messsage came up.

Wish me luck!

Double D:
As you see a messge posted, when I tried again (a more lengthly message) it again failed to go to the preview page.  The problem with the procedure you listed, is there isn't any error message.  When I click on the preview icon, my message disappears and the normal log on screen comes up just as it does when you initially click on log in from the top of the forums page.

This reply came up in preview status, thus should post when I click on submit.

When I have tried to respond to CAV with info, it has been several paragraphs (5 or 6) long--is the message possibly to long for posting parameters?

I have had the problem you describe a couple of times also. It happens some time when you go to preview mode several times.  No explanation other than that for it.  Your message was not to long.

Be sure when you are in the review mode that you co down and use the reply window and don't hit the back button to redo you reply.

Also before you go to review take a second and copy your response.  higlight, right click, copy, the hit preview.  Do the same thing before you post.  Particlularly with long and complex postings.
