I was just thinking how interesting it would be if we could all list the year and caliber of the first Contender we ever owned.

I am: 1996, .222 Rem

If you all feel like adding to the list, I think it could be interesting.  If not, oh well.  Thanks.
How'd you like a peek at my 14-incher? (Contender, that is)

Super 14 7-30 in 2001.  I'd always wanted a Contender ever since I was a kid (early 70's).  I could never afford them.  Now I have a "bunch" and love 'em to death.

1970's 5 digit Contender receiver with a new 12" .22 Hornet barrel. Bought in 2004. I like it, and need lots of practice.

Edit to add: I originally bought the contender with four barrels; .44 Mag 10" Octogon hotshot I guess it is (it has a choke), .222 Rem 10" Oct, .357 Herret 12" Bull, and a 7mm INT Rimmed (I think, the barrel says TCU, but it's not) Super 14. I traded the .222 and the .357 for a new .22 Hornet 12" Bull with sights. The 7mm I hope to be able to rechamber to 7-30 W and I don't know what I am going to do with the .44 Mag. Hold it for a rainy day I suppose.

I believe it was 1979 and it was a 10" oct. 22Hornet, with a 10" 41 mag barrel added shortly thereafter.

Date? Dunno, time has long since erased that one from memory. Just guessing it was in the 70's likely early '70s but just when I cannot recall. Not even sure I can say which barrel came first. Likely either a .22LR or a .44 Mag. Both 10". I had many back then tho so I'm afraid the fog of time has taken the specifics from me.

I bought my first used at a gunshow in 2002.  Blued S14 30-30.  I've now been thru about 25 or more barrels and about 8 frames.  Still have 4 frames, and 8 barrels.  Plus one Encore rifle.  There has been alot of buying and selling to get exactly what I want.

First one I bought was 1978-79 with 22lr octagon barrel and that strange grip with the metal bottom panel. Did my own refinish job on that one and still have it.
The next one came along in the early 80's .357 mag bull barrel. Next was 1996 with 7-30 waters 14" and 21" carbine. Then all hell broke loose and I ended up with all kinds of barrels.
Next one is a G2 in March for my son's Bday in .204 Ruger. Actually in the process of putting the whole project today. Barrel is on the way back from TC, bullets, dies, brass are on the way from Midsouth. I will stop tonight and pick up powder, primers. I am on the phone while I'm typing this to get case trimmer pilot from RCBS. I'm set...........

1996 a 223 Remington 14".I bought it at a gun show for $90.00 and it is still one of the best shooters I have.I had bought a frame from a friend for $100.00 so my first setup was a pretty good deal.

1985(?)--A Super 14 in 30-30 Winchester cartridge.  It would be interesting to know just how many rounds this barrel has fired!  For the past six years, it has shot only cast bullets...BCB

Spring of 1987. Herrett stocks. 10-inch 223 barrel. With Rem. factory ammo the blast and flash was astounding.

1969, .22LR and 30-30. Added a 4X Lepould scope to the 30-30 in the eighties, and still shooting it.  Today I have four of them and 29 diffrent calibers.  About half the barrels have scopes.

My first one was in about 1990.  Contender frame, 35 Remington and a Tasco scope.  That was actually my first handgun and I learned to shoot it very well.  Based on my experience, this is why I do not always recommend that someone start with a 22 handgun.

In 1984 I talked my mom into getting my dad a Armour Alloy II w/ 14"223 for Christmas.  I turned 20yo in 1989 and dad got me a blue frame w/14" 7mm tcu for birthday.  Now have another AAII frame and dad and I keep adding to our barrel collection.

In December 1995, got my dad a T/C SCOUT muzzleloader pistol and had it engraved.

1987: An older frame(that I later had converted too easy open etc:) with a SSK 30/40 Krag 14" w/TSOB and SSK brake. It also had a 2x Luepold on it and now wears a 2x7 Burris. Bought it for the sum of $350.00 at my local gun shop I frequent.

3/18/88... I keep all my receipts! I bought a Super 14 in 223 with the Herrett grip and a 4X Burris scope. I soon bought a Burris 2X7 as it was the largest at the time. The 223 really needed a lot of glass for the distance it was capable of! Deal also included a 22 Hornet 10" octagon barrel that I didn't shoot very much.
Have been selling my Contender stuff so I can try out some Encore products I still have a couple barrels left I hate to part with.

It was 1990......410 vent ribbed barrel. Most people I talk to still don't like this barrel, but after I've added many more barrels, it's still my favorite.  It's a awesome and very challenging rabbit hunting gun.

Mid to late 70s vintage bought in 1987 from a co-worker for $200 in .256 win mag 10" octagon.  It was the first Contender I had ever laid eyes on and I was instantly enthralled.  I shortly ran out of sources for factory ammo and bought out my best friend's entire reloading hobby.  Five more barrels and tons of fun later I'm still on my first Contender.

Bought a 10" 30-30 bull barrel Contender in summer of 78.  Only had one other pistol, a Hi Standard 22 and thought I needed something more powerful.  Picked up a box of 170 grain Remingtons and went to the back yard.  First shot and I thought I'd broke my wrist.  After a few more rounds, I thought things over and bought a set of dies and started loading my own at a much reduced level.  Still have the gun and barrel but it's not my favorite.  Of course, now I have around 25 barrels to choose from and the 300 Whisper is my favorite 30 caliber.

My father bought me a super 14 in 223 back in 84. I didn't have a clue what it was. Took me a hour to open it. I could hardly hold the dang thing with the factory grips, couldn't hit squat with it, didn't look to promising. A dealer I met at a gun show helped me out big time. New grips, scope etc. It's been downhill from there :)  :)  :)  :)
