What you are considering is 2 totally different guns. I have the .204 in an Encore barrel and a couple of .17 cal. centerfires for the Contender. All are great varmint rifles and cal`s. , but the gun are as different as day and night. The Encore is far better for the bench or from by-pods, but the Contenders are alot better carry guns. I would suggest that if your going to be setting in one place most of the time to go with the Encore. BUT, if you like to do alot of walking around go with the Contender. You will be happy with eather.
