tang sight mounting
« on: January 27, 2005, 12:59:35 PM »
Is there something involved in matching a tang sight to a rifle beyond the distance between the mounting holes?

I have a Henry Golden Boy that I would love to mount a tang sight on. I have seen several used and older Lyman tang sights at good prices. Even with a new marble's sight, i will have to have two holes drilled and tapped to mount a tang sight on the Henry.

Before I plunk the money down, I'm wondering if there is something else that could make a sight unsuitable for this rifle.

Only one other thing.  The angle of the tang to the boreline.  The sight should have an upright position that matches that angle.  You may get lucky, or you may have to alter the sight base to correct.

The verticle angle of the tang sight is usually alterable to a degree, requires some alteration to the sight.  The underside of the tangs base should also fit the curvature of the tang for a stable fit.

that's pretty much what I thought. If i get a really good deal on something I can probably match it up with file, a drill or some JB Weld.
