Just picked up my .308 survivor today.  Cleaned the barrel put on 3 Ibs of my night vision scope.  The stock of the survivor give just the right amount of  eye relief.  Shot six rounds of cheap 147gr.  FMJ got it hitting a bucket @ 100yds.  I love this combo can't wait to get it dialed in and start loading for it.  Coyotes aren't going to have a chance.  You guys have any loads that work good in the survivor.  The second letter in the serial # is a U what year was this thing made.  Thanks

I have a 308 but not the NEF. I just bought a 7mm-08 handi rifle that has the U fir a second letter. It must be pretty new. Somewhere I saw a listing for the nunbers but I don't remember where I saw it. Good luck with your new 308.

Look at the 2nd letter of the serial number.
(I'm pretty sure 1995 is J, 1994 H, etc)

K=1996
L=1997
M=1998
N=1999
P=2000
R=2001
S=2002
T=2003
You're looking for N or later if you want to be able to order the barrels marked with an asterisk on the accessory barrel page.

Federal Match 168 grain factory load...worked exceptionaly well out of mine...never really cared for the Survivor Stock or storearm...just didn't suit my taste,so I ordered a set of the cinamon laminatesfor it......but I had great luck with the heavy barrel...another factory load that does extreamly well out of it...Winchester Power Points...150 grain...shoots almost as well as the match...not much difference...right at 1/2" groups at 100 yards...for a little heavier bullet in a factory load...Norma 180 grain Oryx...those groups stayed between 3/4" and 1" if I kept the barrel clean...and would open up to around 1-1/2" groups after 25 or 30 rounds thru it...didn't really get to try tomany handloads with it...but for the ones I did try...I found that you really don't want to try to seat out to the lands with them...accuracy feel way off...set them up just a tad longer than the factory loads using the same bullet and you'll do fine...

Hey RR,
  I have a .308 survivor, and love it.  Like Mac said most of the match loads will give you pleasing results.  It took forever to find a handload that mine liked as well as the 165grn Hornady light mag.  If I could have found those a little cheaper, I would have given up on handloading for this rifle.  Mine was putting the light mags consistantly into .75-1.25", depending on me.  The only handload I have found that really works well for my rifle is 44.5 grns of Varget (YMMV, use at your own risk, this is safe for me may not be for you, and all other disclaimers) under a Hornady 165grn BTSP.  If I do my part, these will hold an inch every time.  If I went with any more powder, the cases started to stick.  I don't know if this was due to pressure or a rough chamber.  Either way, 44.5 was working well so I didn't push it.

I have 385 rounds,handloads, through my 308.
I am using Varget,work up loads in .5 increments.
Final load is Varget 45.0 w/Hornady 150SST bullets
Chrony average @ 2695fps.
I have not had any problems what so ever with this load, no stuck cases or pressure signs other than numerous reloads of the same brass, which I weed out and toss.
I am not saying this load will work for, but it does for me.
AS ALWAYS START LOW AND WORK LOADS UP.
The accuracy is hard to tell as I am using 6MOA redot, but gives 1.5 inch groups @100 when I do my part.
The reason I am not using a hi-power scope is I still hunt in heavy river folage and 50yds or less are the normal shots. The red dot alows quick site on.
Good luck with your 308.
