Cmac;

i bought a P22 when they first came out, and have messed with mine some. These are my thoughts:

1) Trigger pull is terrible.
2) Action is fairly reliable, and does not seem to be excessively prone to
jamming/feeding problems. Also not finicky about what ammo you
    shoot.
3) Grip is fairly comfortable because you can change out the backstrap
piece to make it fit your hand better.
4) Barrel is retained by a tension nut at end, which after 500 rounds or so
shot loose. began shooting groups all over the place. i tightened,
which fixed the problem, and it hasnt worked loose since.
5) mine is short version, my brother bought the long barrel, and it does
not seem to be any more accurate, both are what i would qualify
as "short range plinkers/backups". good to take with you fishing or
such to  shoot snakes, and at about 50 feet i can usually hit a pop can
with 3 out of 4 shots,  but  thats about the best i can get the gun to do.
have tried 5 or 6 kinds of ammo, and they all shot about the same...
6) Front sight on short model can be switched out, they give 3 heights of
ramps to select from with the gun.
8) There is plenty of room for all of God''s Creatures...Right beside the mashed potatoes.. 8)

Thankyou for your reply. When buying a new gun it always helps to talk to someone who already owns one. Not sure what I'm going to do. Would you buy the gun again if you had it to do over ?
thanks again,
cmac

Check Rimfirecentral.com for lots of info on the P22.  If buying used, be aware that early models may have has some teething issues, as reported on that site.  If new, then all should be good.  Interesting reading none the less.

I have one, short barrel.  It is fun to shoot, but feels small in my hand.  Seems well made, especially considering the $$, but I do not have more than 500 rnds thru my example to give any insight on longevity, etc.

Also check out SIGs new Mosquito.  It is also a .22lr semi-auto designed after their P226, but at reduced overall size.  It should be (I don’t think any have shipped from the Mfg yet) quite a bit larger than the P22, which is quite small.  If this one has typical SIG quality, then it should be a winner.

I love all .22s, and if I wasn’t saving for a S&W 41, I would be looking at the new SIG.

from the Walther Nighthawk airgun will fit right on the P22 for around $150 and have seen them on used forums for $120.  The flashlight alone is around $90 and you also will have the airgun with a fake silencer on it to sell for about $50-$70.  Check it out!

The P-22 is a 75% scale of the P-99.  My wife has one and likes it very much but will grab my ruger Mark II or Smith 41 for serious target work.

The P-22 is not considered an accurate gun.  It is a rare gun that I can outshoot and this is one that I can outshoot.

Overall it is a fun gun to shoot.

Upon my first cleaning, I had to laugh at the barrel.  It looks like a rifled piece of threaded pipe.  Cheap was my opinion.
