You didn't say what brand of sks you have?? If it has a chromed lined barrel this could be a problem when you go to cut and recrown it because you could chip the chrome. Its like a 50/50 chance of it happening but if i did it for sure it would chip on me. If its a yugo sks with no chrome lining I think its been done already they have been made into paratrooper sks's which i believe have shorter barrels than 18" already I think there 16" and very accurate too. You may want to do a search for "shortening an sks barrel" or "cutting an sks barrel" or "making a paratrooper sks" i'm sure some info will come up because its been done like i said before. BigBill
BTW; I purchased a ufixem yugo m59 from century a while back and the barrels were in rough shape so i thought(corrosive ammo "pitted") At first i tried to change out the barrel which is easy to do. The new chinese barrel is 180 degrees off from the yugo barrel the way its machined, what i mean is where the thread starts and the barrel locks up. The gas port ends up on the bottom. But i realized something i soaked the barrel with G.I. Rifle Bore Cleaner and the more i cleaned the old barrel the more the crud came out. It seemed the ufixem up was used with plastic bullets because i ended up with a good bore after a really hard cleaning. I have an orginal yugo m59 that was used in the war and has the history look of it too. Its not like the new/unissued ones we see today for sale that were built for us(the second shipment), I have a piece of history. I'm saying this incase you have one that looks to be shot out when its not its plastic or rubber stuck in the bore.
