need autoloader advice
« on: January 29, 2005, 03:31:11 PM »
What 12 ga. semi should I buy. I am used to over/unders so I need something that has the right feel. I have a Mossberg 500 and it just doesn't point right for me. I need something that shoots 3 inch shells but not longer because it must cycle fast. Most important it must balance like a 28 inch field o/u.

 thanks for the input

benelli super blackeagle it will handle 2 3/4- 3 1/2 don' think you will find anything that wiill cycle faster or as reliable but if you want only 3" then the benelli motifeltro would be my picks

Semiauto's just don't balance like doubles no matter who makes them. If you're looking for the same feel then you really need to stick with what you have. If you feel you need a semiauto just pick them up and see what feels best to you. But none are gonna feel like the O/U to you. Just not in the cards. I personally find the Remingtons (1100 or 1187) to work best for me. But the old Browning Auto Five feels quite good and I shoot them well. But oh do they kick with no gas assist to relieve recoil like gas operated semiautos.

I've never shot a Benelli or Beretta. Don't care much for the Winchester or Mossberg.

Try a Benelli M1 Super 90 with a 24" (yes I said 24") barrel.

Find a shop that carries Verona shotguns, were you can actually handle one.  They weigh in under 7 pounds and point quick, shoot 2 3/4 or 3" shells.  The SX-405 can be had for around $250 if you shop around.  I have 2 and so far not a single hic-up.  ~~ raynor

I shoot 1187 for skeet and doves, because it is very sturdy, but for hunting and fast shooting it is a Franchi AL.  lightweight reciever seems to make it feel more balanced.  Very well crafted.
