First can a Marlin 30 AS in 30-30 be rebarreled to a 375 winchester? I have been looking for a Marlin 375 and can't seem to find on. Well I can but they're around $500. This got me thinking that I should look into changing the barrel out on my 30-30. Don't use it much any more and would love to have it the other way.

So what should this cost me? Even if it costs me 300 it's better than the alternative. Will the gun handle the pressure? Will it function properly?

They could be made to function thru the rifle but the barrel will need to be changed. GunPartsCorp may have the parts..including the barrel.. I suppose the 336 will take the pressure but I check the GunPartsCorp catalog first and see what parts are specfic to the 375 caliber. The 375 is simply a higher pressure version of the 38-55..

I just had Marlin rebuild my entire 336 to the Cowboy configuration for $250. They currently offer that rifle in 38-55. If it were mine I'd send it back to the mothership and let them do their magic, can't even buy a decent barrel blank for that cheap!

That's cheap!! I'd advise a call to marlin and ask about a 38-55 conversion. It's nearly the same round just loaded to lower pressures. Of course it's still more than you might need for a whitetail.
