Been thinking about airpistol that would be fun plinking and taking an occassional squirrel. Think, Id rather stay away from co2 , like the simplicity of not having to worry about another item. Appreciate recommendations. Prefer to keep price as reasonable as I've already got way to much into my milsurp habit..I mean hobby

Staying away from CO2 and PCPs, there's the Avanti/Daisy 747.   It's the hands down favorite for the IHMSA-Air production class.    Then if you're into air guns that look like firearms then there's the Beeman P-3.

If price is a problem go with the Daisy 717 or the Marksman 2004.

If price isn't a problem then the  Izh 46M  or even the FWB 103.

For hunting, you'll need to limit your range to 10m since these are all rather low power, ~4fpe.

How's that for a starter list?  Others can comment.  Your milage may vary.

outdoorman,

For surprising accuracy and power at a bargain price try the Crosman 1377.  Easily able to mount a scope on them and they have power enough for the off squirrel/pack rat that comes along.  I have taken a number of Ground Squirrels and a bundle of pack rats with mine.  Best part is the custom work you can have done with all the after market parts to really turn them into the pistol that fits your wants to a tee.  I too don’t care for Co2 weapons as the cartridges always seem to be empty when you need then to be full.  Lawdog

thanks for these suggestions, I will check in to these guns. Since first post, I've read about some chinesse guns called b5-10 by funsupply. Any comments about their guns (seems like they make b22 rifle for hunting also)

outdoorman,

If you are going to buy a Chinese model then get it from a reputable dealer.  I can recommend Compasseco, Inc..  Go to http://www.compasseco.com/ and check out the Tech Force line of rifles and pistols.  I have bought a few of the Tech Force models from them and they are an excellent value.  The b22 is nothing but a clone of the RWS 48/52 in .22 and the Tech Force model 21 is their counterpart.  The Tech Force 5-10 is the copy of the b5-10.  The Tech Force M21 is a good buy but I know nothing about the 5-10.  Lawdog

I ordered a Beeman P3 tonight - will be a welcome addition to my indoor range shooting sessions! I have a 24 year old Crosman 1377 , needs to be repaired. The 1377 is not a bad shooter. But I am looking forward to the P3.

I agree with SoCal hunter; get the 1377.  My mildly modified one at 10 pumps it puts out close to 6 fpe (7.9 gr pellet @ 570 fps) and when grossly over pumped to 15 it puts out a little over 6.7 fpe (7.9 gr pellet @ 620 fps).  This is at 4000 ft altitude.  They are very accurate and fun to modify.  Parts are available from Crosman real cheap.  A new barrel only costs $4.87 plus shipping.  Big 5 sporting goods occasionally puts 1377's on in-store unadvertised sale for 40 bucks.  Take a flashlite and inspect the bore.  A lot of them have bad rifling.  A good bore will look like the intro to a James Bond flick.  Bad things to look for are straight, unspiraled rifling, sprial rifling with a straight rifling overlaid on it and no rifling at all.  I have an IZH-46. RWS 6M, and other accurate airpistols but I shoot the 1377 more than all of them combined.
