I got my SBH 45LC in a Bisley frame several months ago.
Using factory PMC 300gr. SP.
Haven't harvested anything yet but the gun likes the load and I can get them at the local gun shop.
I know they are a little heavy for deer and black bear but if I can keep  nice groups under 50 yds. that's what she'll get fed.

Curious as to exactly what you've got.  I believe the only .45 SBH was the Hunter model and that was only available in the standard Huntr grip configuration and not a Bisley style.  Pretty sure all other .45 Ruger SA's were built on either a BH or Vaquero frame.

Sorry about that, my mistake.
Yes it is a standard BlackHawk not the hunter version.

50 yard Testing
« Reply #34 on: March 21, 2005, 10:39:23 AM »
Got out to the range on Saturday (3rd in a row) to do some more load testing with the SBH Hunter 45Colt.  This Saturday's loads were 250gr FNRP Lead over 22.0gr of H110.  We also moved back to 50 yards for the testing.  We used the table to support our hands but not the revolver.
By the way, I am still shooting open sights and currently seeing little reason to utilize the scope mounts.

Firing full cylinder groups, I was averaging about 3-5" 5-shot groups by the end of our testing.  I would normally call one pulled shot per cylinder.  I definitely need a spring kit as the factory trigger is heavy.  None the less, I was very pleased with Saturday's shooting.  A definite confidence builder with this new revolver.

This load was definitely mild in comparison to my first assorted loads.  It appears to be quite accurate.   For my next outting, I will take the powder charge up a little and see where my accuracy goes.  Once we, my 45 and hunting buddies 44,  make our final "hunting load" decision, we will report out on 100yd and 200yd testing.  The 200yd is not for hunting, just a little fun trying to break clays at 200 yds.

This Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter in 45 Colt has won my endorsement!

Well, I "informally" tried to break clays at 100 and 200 yards.  I had some success at 100, but not 200.  I have new sights ordered, which will of course improve my accuracy without any improvements on my part.

I am still playing with loads to determine my "optimum hunting" recipe.

I ordered the Ruger gold dot sight set from Brownells last week, so I'll report out on them when they arrive.  The same shipment should contain the remainder of the parts necessary to get my "back-up" Blackhawk 45 back into shooting condition.

In my Bisley and Vaquero (and my leveraction Winchester) - I find good loads with H110 21 grain.  Bullets is Lyman 325 and Mimek 350 gr.

Ratgunner,
Today I went to Pistol Packaging and got their Banditio ( www.pistolpackaging.com )  Fits my SBHH .45 Colt like a glove(got the scoped holster).  They are a great value when you consider their lifetime warranty.  Owner told me even if it just gets all scraped up to send it back and he'd take care of me.

Thanks Dakota, the prices look good but,did you get the shoulder or hip or the belt model? The hunter seems a bit hefty for belt carry to me but I'm not 7 ft. tall . :-D

Ratgunner,
I got the shoulder belt version.  The heft of my scoped Hunter is a non-issue with this setup.   Yup, those Hunters aren't the lightest revolvers in the world, but the weight seems to really soak up the recoil.
