TC Rear iron sight problem
« on: January 30, 2005, 08:00:15 AM »
I just picked up a 10" 41 mag barrel.  Went out and shot it yesterday and could not get the stock TC rear sight to lower enough to hit paper plate at 50 yds(roughly).  Shot about 6-8" high set all the way down.  The barrel is a TC factory barrel with the sweated (welded) front sight and iron rear sight as stated.  I was not that concerned, because I am going to put some type of red dot scope on it , till I started to look at removing the rear sight.  It is not like the other TC rear sights I have encountered so far in that the rear tang has a little stop on it.  When you relase the elevation screw it stops you from flipping up the sight and getting to the mounting screws.  It looks like to remove I would have to push out the hinge pin in the front of sight to  remove the sight so that I can get to the screws. Is this correct or is this sight also sweated on?  Either way I need to get it off or figure out some way of dropping the rear buckhorn so that it will hit what I aim at.  Any help would be appreciated.

Yep, wrong sight height for that caliber.  As far as getting it off, you are correct that you have to drive the roll pin out of the front of the sight.  I had one of the wider sights do that to me if I remember correctly.  Once you get the pin out and top portion of the sight off you will see the screws.
