the proper way?
« on: January 30, 2005, 09:26:52 AM »
What is the proper way to resize brass for the Contender? I have been full length resizing my 221 Fire Ball brass but i don't think that is the right way. I believe this has been answered before. In my old age i can't remember what the answer was. Any help sure would be appreciated.  Thanks very much.

You are going to get answers and explainations both ways on this topic.  Listen, make you best decision and try both ways.

I neck size only using a neck sizing die with bottleneck cases for both my Encore and Contender.

If you have a neck sizer I would just use that until the brass get's hard to chamber. Then just FL size enough so the action closes easy on a case and repeat the process. If you only have a FL die just set it to size enough for the action to close easy.  This may take a bit of fiddling to get it right. A stoney point Head & Shoulder gauge works great for setting things up.

if ya do.................later on, KNOW what to do if ya starty getting misfires. you will then need to bump the shoulder back with a full length sizer to get proper headspace. the cases will grow and eventually cause this more than likely. it may take several firings, according to how hot your loads are.
after 7-8 firings on 6tcu's that were partial sized, the misfires started showing up. bumping the shoulder with the full length sizer cured it.

the same situation in the new G2/encore will not let the hammer cock.

if a feller has a few hundred rounds of brass, it may take a while to show up if you rotate thru all that brass.
try a test of just a few rounds by reloading the same ones over and over. see if the problem arises.
