Question on stoning lugs...
« on: January 31, 2005, 01:10:51 AM »
Guys,
I'll apologize in advance for hitting the forum so hard, with so many questions. But, I just aquired three new barrels, and it has stirred me up again.
When y'all talk about stoning the lugs, or locking bolts, are you stoning on the  taper, or bevel, of the bolts; or are you stoning on the top flat of them, reducing the actual thickness of the bolt?
I have always sent the barrel & frame to T/C to correct this, or, more recently, just called & asked them for some new lugs/bolts. From what I read here, evidently this is no longer an option. So I guess I better learn how to do this.
 Can y'all help me out?

I have always stoned down the top flat until the lugs will lockup past the little half moon in the center. I usually use a magic marker on the top of them and then close the gun several time to see how far it is locking up. dave
