Muzzle brakes
« on: January 31, 2005, 04:13:57 AM »
What custom company makes the best muzzle brakes (reduces most felt recoil) or is there good ones at some where like midway and then have a custom company put it on...

I am looking to get my 12" 454 re-chambered into a 460 and i can't say my 454 is a pleasure to shoot and just the thought of going bigger hurts my wrist..I have a 500S&W made by VVCG and the muzzle tamer on that makes it feel like a heavy load in my 44 contender not bad at all but as we all know no more VVCG....
I have yet been able to shoot a 3 shot sub 1" group at 100 yards ...........on any deer!!!!!!

If the barrel is from TC or their custom shop, they'll put on a brake for $75 from what I remember.  I've got a custom shop, 350 Rem Mag barrel with their brake, and it works very well.  Less barrel flip than my 260 Rem.  It comes straight back a lot harder though.  I wouldn't go so far as to say it's pleasant to shoot, but it's at least tolerable.

If looks aren't a huge concern, you can look at one on EA Brown's site. It looks like a howitzer/sherman tank barrel end, and supposedly reduces nearly 100% of the felt recoil. But it sure puts a big ol' knob out there on the end of your barrel. He has some others available as well, but I can't really vouch for any of them.

OTT makes a "fish gill" brake that alot of shooters are using on the big bore barrels. Saw one on a 15" 458 Win Mag and a 16.5" 300 Win Mag barrels. The guys who have them swear by them.

I have seen the 458 and the 0tt break hear good things about it too and Mike that dose them..

And I ain't concern about looks I am all about ugly keeps other people off my stuff ( and that theory works for every thing guns, trucks, boats, women, ect.)

the worst muzzle tamer I ever owned was from T/C custom shop on a 270 worked good but the sound was the not worth it.
