I've wanted to do so, but most kayaks are too limited on the weight and bulk of gear they can handle.

I hunt moose via canoe, you can move a decent amount of gear with ease, so long as there aren't many portages.

It has it's possibilities.  As long as you have a boat with you and use the kayak to explore shallow bays and rivers leading into the bays it could work.  There are some places on Prince William Sound where a kayak would work but a zodiak has a much greater load capacity to handle bringing the game out.  That is why so many people prefer them up here.  They just tie the zodiac to the top of the cabin and leave it there as a life raft.  

Have you ever discharged your rifle from a kayak before?

I think for shore huntnig a canoe would offer a better load capacity for hauling stuff.  I have had a 17'er for over 29 years and will bring it back to Alaska if I can pry it away from my son.

I had an 18' fiberglass sea kayak for a while - I never got very good in it but it sure was fun.  It might have had the load capacity for hunting small deer or something.   I'd sure be interested in the reaction from firing a gun from a kayak.  Went fishing one day and hooked into a small halibut - no more than 40 lbs - it nearly rolled me over and got away! End of that activity.  Come to think of it, one of those old Klepper folding kayaks might work ok for hunting. But if it got all bloody I sure wouldn't want to do any beach camping - bears would love crunching it up.  Shoot every year they play havoc on a few of the rubber rafts - they think they're chew toys.

:lol:  Thanks for the replies. I guess I was thinking more of scouting and moving  from place to place rather than shooting from it. I have shot my shotgun from mine when I used it duck hunting. I have a wider stabil kayak for an old fat guy like myself. You can't take many decoy with. It's a lot faster than a duckboat.
