You will find that the square trigger guard comes with a longer grip. This is preferred by some. The round trigger guard uses the same grip frame as the regular Blackhawk and the Vaquero.

Had to put oversized grips on my OM SBH because of the way it would dig into my finger when shooting stiff loads. The old Norma Magnums would draw blood after 5 shots. I've got extra large hands so many guys won't have this happen. Will be upgrading the Pachmyer's in favor or Herret's Shooting Stars real soon.

beat me to it.   They are indeed more different than just the rear of the trigger gaurd.  I've got real preference but some do.  I actully prefer the Bisley grip, especially with heavier loads.

While the Hunter trigger guard is round, it is also longer than the standard BH or Vaquero by about 1/4". Somebody should go ahead and make the dern things just like an FA grip. I'd replace all of mine.

I didn't realize the round version was also longer. I prefer the long version and for that reason (I thought) I preferred the squared (dragoon) version.

I haven't had a problem with knuckle bruising yet but it is an issue for some people. I also like the look.

I had my trigger finger pinched with the square guards, the clearance increases as the trigger goes back, and as the gun kicks up it pinches. Took me a long time to figure out what was making my finger hurt.

I generally like the standard Blackhawk or Vaquero grip frame, but have experimented with modifying a SBH grip frame. I took some FA grip panels and traced them, welded up the SBH grip frame where it needed it to grind it to the FA contour, and I had the square guard filled in and ground it down round. Feels pretty goood, but I've never put it on a gun yet.

Never could warm up to the Bisley grip frames, they just feel awkward to me.

Are the SBH hunters all stainless? I prefer blued guns.

I have smaller hands and like the squared trigger guard.  People with bigger hands don't like it because it does rap their knuckles.  Those people usually like Smith 29s whereas I can't shoot them at all.  The thumb latch rips the hide off of my thumb.
