What is everyones opinion of the Marlin model 60

I  have  owned  countless  nimbers  of  these  guns  and  all  have  shot  great.  very  accurate  for  100.00   what  is  your  opion  anbout  cleaning  them???   i  have  literally  shot thousands  and  never  jammed  them  up   please  list  all  pros  and  cons

There is a lot of pro and con on this cleaning 22's as the bullets being soft lead some claim do not harm the barrel (wear it out) and do not lead. I do not know about the wearing out but I have seen some awfully old 22's with great bores so maybe that aspect may be true. About the leading I had  a 22 lead up with cheap 22 ammo (Remington) thunderbolts leaded up a Ruger pistol I had so bad it was making wire bullets I did not realise this until I could not hit what I was shooting at at shot at paper and saw it was keyholeing. It was hot out and the bullets must have had the lube melt off of them before I shot them. the box was in my car for a few days before I shot them. So under the right conditions 22's can lead up. The Ruger was so bad I cleaned it and dumped it as I am sure I did not do the barrel anygood trying to get the lead out it literly came out in chunks. Now I use good 22 bullets and do not shoot the cheap brands. Under normal use I do not brush but will run a partch of Butches Bore Cleaner after I have shot it a few times and then wipe with a dry patch and a oily patch. The Butches is great stuff I use it on all my guns and it seems to clean the lead and copper deposits right out of the barrel with out brushing. I have heard they have came out with a black powder version I will have to get some of that and try it also. As far a the action of a 22 semi auto I would guess a ocasional cleaning using a product like gun scrubber or some thing like it and a very light oiling would be in order as the action will pick up old powder and dirt. So for the most part I feel excessive cleaning and cleaning the wrong way is hard on guns but they need it when they need it and if it looks dirty or the action gets sticky clean it. I feel better putting a cleaning patch down the bore and a oiled patch after shooting if nothing else it makes me feel better. Jim

I avoided the Model 60 for a lot of years, simply because it seemed everyone had one.  I like guns that are out of the ordinary.  After collecting many good old twentytwos, I finally decided I needed a "new" one to act as a test piece to compare the old ones to.  I bought the 60SB in '97, and it's been a good reliable and accurate shooter - though most of my old ones are a bit more accurate.  The 60SB does outshoot my even newer Ruger 10-22 Wally Mart Special.  I generally shoot the plated bullets in the semiautos, as they seem to feed better.
In the bolt rifles, I prefer the cast lead loads.
Cleaning the Marlin 60 isn't bad - once you've done it a couple times, and know to be careful with the recoil spring.  I kinked the one in my old 99M1 Marlin carbine.

I just bought a new Marlin 60SB but haven't shot it yet, my wife has one in the blue steel and it has been a very accurate and reliable shooter
